6/23/2006 I had two pieces of turkey and some mashed potatoes left over from lunch yesterday. I put my initials on them and the date and put them in the fridge at work so I could eat it today. Well, I ended up going to the caf for lunch after all (with a coworker; we spent about an hour there to kill time), but I didn't think it would be a problem. Generally, as long as you have your food labeled, it won't get thrown out. Anyway, I went in the kitchen a few minutes ago to get water and saw some food containers and bags and yogurt cups and such just sitting on the counter. Odd. I looked at the refrigerator. Now, there's always a flyer posted on the fridge that says it's cleaned out every Friday at 2:30 and anything un-labeled gets tossed. But I noticed that the wording on the flyer seemed to have changed. I looked closer. It said, "Please be aware that due to a power outage scheduled for this weekend, ALL food should be removed from the refrigerator by 1:30 pm." I opened the door. The fridge is totally empty. And for some inexplicable reason, my labeled food is not on the counter with the other stuff. It got tossed. If that flyer has been posted all week, I never noticed it. You'd think the least they could do, if they were going to make a change like that, would be to print the damn thing on colored paper. But no. So I'm left without my only semi-real meal of the weekend. Probably two. Bastards. posted 3:35 PM / post
